In depth
A power of attorney (POA) is a legal document authorizing a person (typically a lawyer) to act on behalf of another. In CBD cases, a POA allows counsel to file the application, attend hearings, and receive decisions on the applicant's behalf.
For Italian 1948 cases, the POA (procura) authorizes Italian counsel to file the petition in Rome and represent the petitioner at hearings. For German Article 116 cases, the POA (Vollmacht) authorizes German counsel to file with the BVA.
The POA must be notarized and apostilled (if signed outside the country of filing) and translated into the official language of the receiving authority. Ancestra prepares POAs as part of the case filing.
