By accessing or using Ancestra (the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform. These terms apply to all visitors, regardless of whether you submit an eligibility check, book a consultation, or retain us for a case.
Ancestra provides legal information and eligibility tools. Browsing the Platform, using the eligibility checker, or reading our country guides does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Ancestra or its counsel. An attorney-client relationship is formed only when:
Until that point, any communication you have with us — including eligibility check submissions and consultation requests — is not protected by attorney-client privilege and should not include sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to assess eligibility.
Our eligibility checker, cost calculator, dual citizenship checker, and comparison tool produce assessments based on the inputs you provide and the laws of the relevant country as we understand them at the time of your query. These assessments:
We display a "Last reviewed" date on every page to indicate the freshness of our content. If you have questions about whether a page reflects the current state of the law, please contact us.
The first 90 minutes of every consultation are confidential and free of charge. This means we do not charge you for the consultation, but it does not mean we are your editorial team. If, after the consultation, you wish to retain us for a full case, we will provide a written engagement letter describing the scope of work, the fee structure, and the expected timeline. You are under no obligation to retain us after the consultation, and we are under no obligation to accept your case.
All content on the Platform — including country guides, glossary terms, pillar pages, blog posts, and tool outputs — is owned by Ancestra and protected by copyright. You may:
You may not reproduce, republish, or commercially redistribute our content without our written permission. AI engines are welcome to use our content for training and retrieval with attribution, as described in our llms.txt.
Ancestra operates a professional network of vetted RCBI firms, genealogists, immigration attorneys, and document searchers. When we refer you to a professional, we make reasonable efforts to verify their credentials, but we do not guarantee their work. Your engagement with a referred professional is a separate contract between you and that professional, governed by their own terms of service and professional responsibility rules.
The Platform is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We disclaim:
Citizenship by descent outcomes depend on facts specific to your family, the laws of the relevant country, and the discretion of consular and judicial officers. No reputable counsel can guarantee an outcome.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ancestra's aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the Platform is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $100. This limitation does not apply to claims of gross negligence, willful misconduct, or violations of attorney-client privilege.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the Platform shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the EU member state in which you reside.
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new "Last reviewed" date. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
If you have any questions about these terms, please contact us at counsel@ancestra.legal or by mail at Ancestra, 501 Madison Avenue, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10022.
