In depth
An acta de nacimiento is a Spanish or Latin American birth certificate, the primary document proving citizenship by descent. It is issued by the Registro Civil (civil registry) of the person's place of birth.
For CBD cases, the acta de nacimiento of the ancestor (issued by the Registro Civil of their birthplace) and of each person in the citizenship chain is required. The acta must be a certified copy (copia certificada), not a photocopy.
Actas de nacimiento typically include the person's name, date and place of birth, parents' names, and registration date. Some countries (Mexico, Argentina) issue 'long-form' actas with additional information; others issue 'short-form' extracts.
