In depth
RENAPO (Registro Nacional de Población, National Population Registry) is the Mexican government agency that maintains the national population registry and issues the CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población, Unique Population Registry Code), which is the unique identifier for all Mexican citizens and residents.
For Mexican CBD cases, RENAPO is involved in issuing the CURP and verifying citizenship status. After the SRE grants citizenship, the new citizen's CURP is registered with RENAPO, and they can apply for Mexican identification documents.
RENAPO also maintains records of Mexican citizens abroad, coordinated with the SRE's consular network.
